Switched by Amanda Hocking

"When Wendy Everly was six-years-old, her mother was convinced she was a monster and tried to kill her. It isn't until eleven years later that Wendy discovers her mother might have been right. With the help of Finn Holmes, Wendy finds herself in a world she never knew existed - a world both beautiful and frightening, and Wendy's not sure she wants to be a part of it."

When I bought this book for my Kindle, this was the only description offered. Simple, easy, not much to go off of. Reading this, my mind immediately said 'Oh great, another vampire novel', assuming it would be some Twilight mimic. I couldn't have been more wrong.

Not after ten minutes of reading, I was completely and utterly engrossed in the life of Wendy Everly, a troubled teenage girl, and the mysterious boy that was Finn Holmes. There was a dark and other-worldly 'something' about their relationship, and I needed to know more. I was hooked. I could not put it down, and soon I was quick to discover that this was hardly another vampire story. Instead I found myself in the world of Changelings, or "mänsklig", trolls (the Trylle) and magic galore.

I don't know about you, but when I think of trolls, I think of one of two things: One, some bumpy, under-the-bridge dwelling fairy tale critter, or two, a dumb oafy beast like those in Harry Potter or The Lord of the Rings. Amanda Hocking, however, has a different side of trolls to show us, a side that is magical and elegant. She takes us to Förening, the home of the Trylle Kingdom, where the life of our young protagonist will be changed forever.

I guarantee that before long you will find yourself just as wrapped up in the roller coaster ride that is Wendy's life. I know for me, I couldn't put it down. It took me only two days to complete the novel and I picked up it's sequel Torn that very same dayHocking does an amazing job at setting the scene for her Trylle trilogy and it is definitely worth the read. I absolutely adored this book, as well as its counterparts and I would not hesitate to say it is one of my favorites.

Five out of five stars!
